Psychological Evaluations

Path2Growth Counseling Services offers comprehensive psychological evaluations, each designed to best meet your needs or the needs of your child, student, or family. Dr. Toussaint utilizes a trauma-informed approach to provide families and schools with a better understanding of a child or student’s behavioral/learning struggles.

Your evaluation should answer the questions for which you sought an assessment—e.g., diagnostic clarification, pattern of academic strengths and weaknesses, level of adaptive functioning, recommendations for interventions and educational planning, and eligibility for services or college programs.

Dr. Toussaint works closely with you to develop the most appropriate evaluation to answer your questions and provides detailed, thorough recommendations that can assist you in determining what information is most important to you.

All reports come with our specialized, copyrighted GROWTH plan, which will feature recommendations specific to you based on the results of your evaluation. Some providers copy and paste, but we take our time to make sure these recommendations actually fit your needs and lifestyle. Our goal at Path2Growth is for you to walk away with a report that empowers you and fully equips you with knowledge of your or your child’s difficulties.

Questions About Psychological Evaluations

How much does an evaluation cost?

The cost of an evaluation varies depending on the clinical time required and the members of the clinical team. Evaluation fees are typically calculated at a rate of $175-200 per hour and range in price from $475 - $3500.

Can I use my insurance to cover my psychological evaluations?

If you are interested in using your insurance to cover the evaluation, please note that many insurance do not cover psychological evaluations or will not cover more a comprehensive evaluation.

If we are out-of-network, the team at Path2Growth will work closely with families seeking reimbursement:

  1. We encourage families to contact their insurance company following our initial discussion in order to inquire about pre-authorization.

  2. We provide families with the CPT codes we anticipate using during the evaluation, and estimates of units of time.

  3. Following the evaluation we provide families with a detailed invoice with CPT codes and time units.

  4. If an insurance company would like to speak with us briefly regarding a request by one of their members, we are happy to do so. Lengthy conversations and completion of insurance paperwork may incur an additional fee.

How long does an evaluation take?

Depending on the referral question, evaluations can take as little as 2 hours to complete, or as long as 10-20 hours of clinical time for a comprehensive assessment. Comprehensive evaluations typically require two to four 2 hour sessions.

Evaluations typically start with a consultation so that Dr. Toussaint can get a better understanding  of the referral questions and concerns. Consultations are typically held virtually. Then, Dr. Toussaint will schedule in-person appointments. The tests selected will be specifically tailored to guide the evaluation following review of information that is provided to the clinical team (e.g., IEPs, previous evaluations, developmental history).

How do we get the results of the evaluation?

The final appointment of any evaluation is a 1-hour “feedback” session during which the results of the evaluation and recommendations are shared by the clinical team.

A highly comprehensive and individualized written report (typically between 8-25 pages) is composed and sent to the recipient via postal mail upon completion. This document is typically finalized about 6-8 weeks after the feedback session is held.

What happens after an evaluation is completed?

Families are encouraged to contact Dr. Toussaint or the clinical team if they have any further questions after reading their report. Additional services (additional fee) that many families find helpful following an evaluation include:

  • Post-evaluation session(s) for service planning

  • IEP meeting attendance by Dr. Toussaint

  • Participation in ongoing services at Path2Growth Counseling (e.g., individual therapy, groups, parent training)

  • Re-evaluation to assess progress at a predetermined time point

  • Ongoing consultation as needed

“I cannot thank Dr. Toussaint enough! She was the first person to identify that my son had Autism after years and years of testing from the school and other doctors. During the feedback session, she sat me down and explained everything. Dr. T gave me the tools I needed to advocate for my son. It’s been such a relief. My son is thriving! This evaluation really helped us!”
